The Institute for Catholic Church Statistics SAC (ISKK SAC) is pleased to announce the publication of the English edition of Annuarium Statisticum Ecclesiae in Polonia. This edition has been prepared to make reliable statistical data on the Catholic Church in Poland accessible to a broader international audience of researchers, institutions, and Church organizations.
The Annuarium Statisticum presents comprehensive statistical information on the life and activity of the Catholic Church in Poland. It includes data on dioceses, parishes, clergy, religious institutes, pastoral activity, sacramental practice, Catholic education, charitable institutions, and other key dimensions of the Church’s presence in society. By compiling and systematizing this information, the publication provides an important resource for academic research, comparative studies, and informed pastoral planning.
A distinctive element of the statistical analysis presented in the Annuarium is the inclusion of the indicators Dominicantes and Communicantes, which are widely used in Poland to measure levels of religious practice. Dominicantes refers to the percentage of Catholics attending Sunday Mass, while Communicantes indicates the percentage of Catholics receiving Holy Communion during the same observation. These indicators are based on nationwide counts conducted annually in parishes and provide one of the most consistent long-term datasets on religious practice in Europe (since 1980s).
The decision to publish an English-language edition responds to the growing interest of international scholars, Church institutions, and partners who analyze religious life, social engagement of the Church, and demographic trends in Central and Eastern Europe. Making these data available in English facilitates wider access to verified information and strengthens international cooperation in the field of religious and social research.
The Institute for Catholic Church Statistics SAC (ISKK SAC) is a research institution of the Catholic Church in Poland that specializes in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data on religious practice, Church structures, and the social activities of the Church. The Institute conducts nationwide statistical surveys, sociological studies, and analytical reports that contribute to a deeper understanding of the role and dynamics of religion in Polish society.
ISKK is also open to academic cooperation and research partnerships. We offer access to selected statistical databases and are willing to collaborate on joint research projects concerning religion, society, and the Catholic. Researchers and institutions interested in cooperation are warmly invited to contact us at: dyrektor@iskk.pl. We hope that the English edition of Annuarium Statisticum will serve as a valuable reference for scholars, analysts, Church leaders, and all those interested in the empirical study of religion.
